Today, I found myself in an emotional funk over several things. I was caught in a tangle of feelings that seemed too complex to sort out, and my conversations weren’t going well. I felt a weight in my chest, and all I wanted was to cry. Instead of fighting it, I put on some worship music and paused. I stopped talking and started asking God why I was feeling this way.
As I sat quietly, it struck me how healing it is to allow myself to cry. Crying is a gift from God, a way He designed for us to release our burdens and find healing. In Scripture, we see this truth again and again. Jesus, fully God yet fully human, cried in Gethsemane, shedding tears of blood for humanity. Mary washed the Savior’s feet with her tears, an act of deep love and surrender. In Psalm 56:8, we are reminded that God treasures every tear we shed, collecting them in a bottle—a beautiful image of how much He values our pain.
Even science acknowledges the benefits of crying. Studies show that crying lowers stress and cortisol levels, helping us find emotional balance and soothing the parasympathetic nervous system. This design is no accident; it’s a divine provision to help us heal.
Jesus knows every single struggle we face. Whether you feel misunderstood, unseen, or weighed down by physical or emotional pain, Jesus understands. He empathizes with us deeply; Hebrews 4:15 tells us He is touched by the feeling of our infirmities. He doesn’t just see our pain from a distance—He has felt it Himself.
And one day, He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. He will heal every broken heart, drawing us back to Himself in perfect love. Until that day, don’t hold back from reaching out to God with your tears. He can handle it, and He wants to help you.
So, the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember that it’s okay to cry. God is near to the brokenhearted, and He welcomes your tears. Let them be a prayer, a release, and a reminder that you’re not alone. He’s right there, holding each tear with love, waiting to bring you peace.
