Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! – Psalm 40:4 (ESV)
I recently had a moment with my cycle that tested my faith. When I realized my cycle would overlap with an upcoming conference, I was filled with anxiety. By that time, I had already paid for my exhibit booth and couldn’t back out. My mind was plagued with thoughts of worst-case scenarios: What if I have a heavy flow and nowhere to properly clean up? What if I can’t find clean bathrooms during the drive? These fears loomed over me, but I decided to move forward in faith, trusting the Lord.
To my surprise, God parted the Red Sea for me. My cycle was unusually light in the days leading up to the conference and during the drive. This gave me a glimmer of hope, and I dared to believe that perhaps I had been healed. But that hope was short-lived as the heaviness returned. When it did, I found myself wrestling with more discouraging thoughts: Why don’t you just get a hysterectomy? Why would God heal you? There’s no point in waiting for marriage or children.
In that moment, instead of succumbing to negativity, I chose to pray and focus on God. The Word reminds us that He is a present help in times of trouble, and I desperately needed His help mentally and physically. So, I turned to scriptures on trust.
One verse stood out: “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!” (Psalm 40:4, ESV)
This verse reminded me of a powerful truth: Satan thrives on lies. He wants us to believe falsehoods about God, ourselves, and others. He tricks us into thinking that our current circumstances dictate our future. This “futurism” leads to anxiety, depression, and fear when we place our focus solely on what’s happening now.
The lie is that our present reality defines what God can do. The lie is that God isn’t a comforter in our pain. The lie is that our desires will never be fulfilled. But the truth is this: God is in control, He loves us deeply, and He has a plan for us—no matter what our circumstances look like.
After meditating on these truths, I rededicated my mind to the Lord and committed to trusting him with my life even if my circumstances don’t change. He is still the Lord of my life, no matter what will be or not. Physical pain, delays, and challenges will happen, but they do not mean that God has forgotten us.
The next time you’re struggling emotionally, physically, or spiritually, ask yourself: What is my faith rooted in? Do you only seek the Lord when things are going well, or are you committed to trusting Him with your life, no matter what happens?
I believe we all must come to these moments in our relationship with the Lord—moments where we ask ourselves deep, honest questions to define and solidify our faith in Him. Sometimes, God allows hardships in our lives to bring us to a place of humility and deeper trust in Him.
Remember, if you are alive, God has a purpose and a future for you. Don’t let temporary circumstances convince you otherwise.
